I’ve loved going out to the gym and playing basketball with the boys for years now; it’s really become my favorite part of the week, and it keeps me going. Last week, I sort of tweaked my knee while I was going up for a rebound. I came down funny after I bumped into Ian in mid-air, and I haven’t felt the same since. Now, the doctor said that I should just rest up and he recommended a good knee brace for when I get back on the court. It doesn’t cost all that much and I think that it’s going to give me the proper support to keep me strong for a while to come. Performing pull ups isn’t all that hard but if you do not use the proper technique, you may not see the maximum benefit from them. The first important step in doing a correct pull up is to make sure you are using a quality bar. A free standing pull up bar or a mounted bar will work the best. These will provide a stable place to do the exercise. Start with your arms fully extended and then pull youself up using your back muscles. Many people want to use their arms only but quickly tire out by doing this. Once your chin is over the bar, slowly lower yourself back down to the starting position. Don’t begin pulling yourself back up until your arms are fully extended. Avoid swinging and using momentum to complete repititions and instead, go slow and steady. However, there is lots of variety when it comes to exercise bikes. I don’t now about you, but I know that I have problems when I go to the gym because there are so many people wanting to use the stepping and rowing machines for cardio workouts. It sometimes takes a really long time before one is freed up for me to use. There is an easy solution to this problem, however, in the guise of High Intensity Interval Training, which takes only about a quarter of the time that conventional cardio takes.
